DIET SUCCESS

Bodybuilding Burgers are a specialty burger made by the Butcher on Bundock for athletes and bodybuilders. They are also great for persons dieting being high in protein.

Tony Tsompanellis, Australian Trainer of the Year 2005 explains his diet and training success

I have been training competitive Bodybuilders and Strength Athletes for 30 years and I understand the importance that nutrition plays in building strength and muscle.

To accomplish both these goals we need to increase the amount of protein that we consume. Of all the foods which are high in protein, none come as close in effectiveness as lean red meat.

The benefits of eating red meat for building muscle and increasing strength go beyond its high protein content. Other high protein foods match red meat in protein per calorie but red meat goes beyond this, providing further nutritional benefits which other foods do not. Red meat is high in:
  • Iron and B12, which both help to increase energy, improving your workouts, and
  • Zinc, which is associated with increased anabolic hormones, including testosterone and IGF-1 (growth factor) which may otherwise be suppressed in hard-training athletes.

Ultimately I have noticed that when an athlete switches to red meat as a significant part of their diet, great improvements become apparent in their physique and the way they train, and their muscles become noticeably fuller.

Five years ago I approached the guys from 'Butcher on Bundock' to produce lean beef patties know as 'Bodybuilding Burgers'.

In addition to providing all of the above benefits associated with red meat, they are also extremely convenient to cook and reheat, and have therefore become a staple part of our bodybuilding diet.

Two examples of bodybuilders who owe much of their success to the 'burgers' are Mick Pappalardo and Denise McPherson.

Mick started as a scrawny 18 years old, who was training 6 days a week at the gym and going nowhere. Apart from his training, the biggest change I made was to his diet, having him eat 6 burgers 3 times a day. Within 18 months his body weight was up by 12kgs and he had won the North Queensland and Queensland Championships.

Denise is an even more remarkable example because she was training for 2½ years as a vegetarian and was making only modest improvements. Upon deciding to eat red meat (burgers) this year she has made the biggest improvements ever, winning every show she entered including the coveted 'Miss Australia'

So do as we do here at 'Empower' and 'Beef up with Butcher on Bundock'
